Why is mindterm.jar obfuscated?

If the product is now open source (or at least, the source is available),
why then is the binary version obfuscated?  It makes it harder to embed
since most of the useful classes are obfuscated.  

Basically, I'm looking to use the product to transfer files and execute
remote commands from inside a program I am writing.
