Minterm FTP->SFTP bridge leaving java threads behind it.

I'm running the mindterm app on a linux box, using the FTP to SFTP bridge.
However, each time I use an FTP client to connect to the local port, when I
disconnect, at least one extra java thread has been created. After a number
of FTP-connects/disconnects these extra threads have built up such to a
level that subsequent attempt to connect fail (presumably due to resource
contention). Has anyone else noticed similar behaviour? Or even come up with
a fix for this problem?
