accessing server from behind a firewall

Hi all -

At work I am behind a firewall, also I need proxz authentication to access
the Internet.

I can call up the webpage where my Mindterm applet (2.1) is "installe,"
but I cannot get the applet to connect to my server. If I type my host's
name it says "no host;" if I use the IP address (number format), I get
"unable to check numeric address." Next, I tried working on the proxy
settings of the applet: "http" proxy does not work, "socks4" and "socks5"
are more promising, but I still get either a "connection refused" or a
"timed out." I tried "socks5" both with and without "authentication
required" checked - same results, i.e., "connection refused."

Any ideas or any suggestions how I might get it working?
