Error starting MindTerm on Mac OS 9

Well, Java is generally rather broken on pre-MacOSX, but I think this
is caused by the MRJ not being able to read JAR files created with
the jar tool from newer JDKs. Try repacking the jar file with a jar tool
from a 1.1.8 JDK and see if it works better.
