emulation problem

When I type a <control>-[ what happens is that a '[' char is
sent and then the expected escape is sent. It is not just a
visual glitch corrected by <control>-L; the [ gets sent to
the host.

This messes me up real bad as I have ingrained typing
<control>-[ instead of using the Esc key so as to not need
to move my hand from home row AND I use vi/vim :-)

In case it matters, I'm seeing this using WinXP with JVM
1.5.0_04, and the terminal type is set to "xterm".
