FTP bridge and unwanted DOS carriage returns

If you're in a Command line ftp program (like windows console ftp) you
can log in to your webserver (with or without the SFTP bridge) and
give it the command "quote syst" ... You should get a reply indicating
the system type.  If the SYST command returns something like UNIX with
the bridge, then my theory is not correct.
