Expiry timeout for SFTP requests

Hello All,

I was wondering if it is possible to specify the timeout period for a
sftp request under program control.  For example, we may have hit a
server that has so many files that a simple 'dir' appears to take
forever and I need to be able to abort it if it does not complete within
a specified period.  So far I have only come across how to set a timeout
for the authentication phase.  I was going to add my own timer process
around the request, but why reinvent the wheel if it already exists.
