Question about auth-method

I am currently running Mindterm 3.0.1 as an applet and had a question
about using auth-method on the web page.
Here is what I know:
password is the default authentication method used if auth-method
isn't defined.
publickey can be set as the authentication method using auth-method.
What I'd like to do:
I'd like to set Mindterm so that if there is a private key with the
correct name in the correct location, Mindterm would choose that and
sign me in with my passphrase only.
What I've tried:
I tried setting auth-method to "publickey, password". When I fired
up Mindterm, I was quite happy as it asked for my passphrase.
However, then it also asked me for my password, which I didn't want.
So, in summary, I'm trying to get Mindterm to use publickey if
available, then default to password if publickey isn't available. Am
I missing anything obvious, or is this not possible?
Thanks!
Mike
