Key mapping

I've tried adding key mapping to the configuration file with every kind 
of syntax I can imagine in ver. 3.1.1 to no avail and after finishing a 
session my handywork is missing from the configuration file.

Do I create a section for key-mappings in the file or add a single line 
with the mapping e.g "shift+f4=[26~" or do I add a line that starts with 
"key-mappings="  or is there another way I haven't even thought of.

By the way, the example above is the only thing keeping me from 
committing to this otherwise outstanding software.
